The Rodeo: A Thing of the Past

Rodeos are promoted as rough and tough exercises of human strength and skill. In reality, they are nothing more than a display of human domination over animals.
The Events:
Events such as calf roping steer wrestling, and bull riding are all standard events in rodeos. What isn't seen in these events is what forces these normally calm and gentle animals to become angered and aggressive.
Forced Performance:
Rodeo animals have no choice but to perform. They are beaten with electric prods, sharp sticks, and whips. Bucking animals do not buck without a flank or "bucking" strap fastened around their bodies. These straps are tightened around their abdomen, squeezing their intestines and vital organs, and pinching their groin and genitals. This intense pain is what causes the animals to buck and run. This torture provokes the animals, which in turn is supposed to make the "cowboys" look brave.
Calf Roping:
Calves roped when running up to 25 miles per hour have their necks snapped back by the lasso. This often results in neck and back injuries, bruises, broken bones, and internal bleeding. Many become instantly paralyzed, or have their throats completely severed. Calves are only used in one rodeo before they are destroyed due to their injuries.
Effect of Rodeos on Children:
Rodeos teach children that violence against animals and weaker people is tolerable. The effects of the extreme, inherent violence in rodeos is overwhelming to the impressionable minds of children.
Remember:
Rodeos are exempt from state cruelty laws. You are the only one that can prevent the violence from continuing, by not going to rodeos again.
