Captain Bowers Scares Public Unnecessarily
In a recent coyote sighting article which appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Captain Wendell Bowers (who now oversees the East Valley Death Camp) is quoted. You may remember, Wendell Bowers was transferred from heading up the Animal Cruelty Task Force due to absolute incompetence. He also has the infamous bumper sticker that reads "Cats, the OTHER White Meat." Below are two of his quotes regarding coyotes in Los Angeles:
"We get calls from all over about cats and small dogs disappearing," said Capt. Wendell Bowers, city Animal Services' wildlife program coordinator. "
and . . . .
"The city experiences an average of two coyote attacks on humans a year, but no such attacks have been reported for about three years, Bowers said."
Both of the above statements are incorrect. The city does NOT experience an average of two coyote attacks on humans a year; in fact more humans have been seriously injured by bee stings in LA during the last fifty years then have ever been approached by a coyote! And Bower's implication that cats and dogs who disappear all over LA are being eaten by coyotes, is pure speculation. Tens of thousands of cats and dogs are murdered each year inside LAAS's Death Camps, compared to the very small number killed and eaten by coyotes.
But this is how Wendell Bowers and the rest of the "old timers" view animals-- as pests to be feared and annihilated.
Bowers is so stupid and inept, he should have been transferred out of the department years ago. But like an old penny, he just keeps on turning up in different positions because Boks and others don't have the ability to teach him current shelter skills or simply transfer him to a job where he will never again oversee or act as an "authority" regarding animals.
Lieutenant Danny Pantoja, another recent supervisor of the LAAS Animal Cruelty Task Force who replaced Bowers, was himself so inept, that the police and others on the Cruelty Task Force demanded that he too be transferred. But like Bowers, Ed Boks made Pantonja the head of the Harbor City Death Camp. Now, Pantoja is trying to get a promotion to Captain, so he can make MORE money and like Bowers, continue to sit on his behind and do little to nothing for the animals.
This is why we must continue to demand that Ed Boks be replaced by someone who will implement written protocols, programs and policies that will stop the killing; not simply move incompetent employees from one location in the department to another.
Don't bother e-mailing, simply CALL the Mayors office and Jimmy Blackman to demand Boks be replaced ASAP! Don't let them pass you off to someone else, (especially Ed Boks, the fraud himself.) You have every right to call and have your grievances taken down and given to the Mayor and Blackman.
