Boks' No Kill Weekend Scam at LAAS!
---- Original Message -----
Dear LA TIMES,
What is laughingly being called, "Death takes a
holiday at the shelters" is a very nice idea. What Ed
Boks did not tell you and wouldn't, because it
wouldn't reflect well on him, is that veterinarians at
Los Angeles Animal Services do not work weekends, and, since, by law, a veterinarian must be present when the kill juice is used, kills are currently never done on weekends. It also means that any injured animal that comes into the satellites over the weekend either goes to an outside emergency hospital and comes back to no pain medication or sits in a cage without care until the following Tuesday. Hence, there is nothing unusual about this weekend except for the adoption event itself.
I sincerely hope this event, this weekend, is so
successful that the satellites are left empty, because
what Scott Sorentino says about people using animals like Doritos is true. But it's a lie that this is a No-Kill week-end exception: the veterinarians get the weekend off. So they normally don't kill on the
weekend. The humans don't get paid to kill the animals on the weekend. That's when the rescuers spend the most time scrambling to find the fosters, to find the
boarding, to find the money to get the animals out. And there are many within the LAAS system helping to do that.
I don't want to detract from the efforts of
the adoption event, I just don't want anyone to have any illusions about the reality of death and what "No-Kill" really means. To find that out, go to this website nokillsolutions.com.

This article is so ludicrous--Boks' new PR firm is trying to engage in false advertising, which is a crime and should be prosecuted! The article has Madeline (Cruella De Ville) Bernstein sticking her nose into everything yet again. Isn't it interesting that she continually is interviewed about LAAS--seems there is definitely a connection between her and LAAS, and between her and Boks--and the sad fact is that both she and Boks are completely incapable of overseeing an animal shelter.
Bernstein continues getting her quotes printed in the papers by misinformed journalists, keeping her name in the news and obtaining free advertising for her own money making and animal killing organization. As for LAAS killing more than half the cats impounded, it's disgusting, and it's because they label the poor cats feral, which most are not. But for the actual feral cats, who have no chance to be adopted and are all killed, they should have a real trap-neuter-release (TNR) program, yet they have no intention of doing that, they are just continuing to kill them all. They killed hundreds of animals this week alone at the LAAS pounds in anticipation of not being able to get away with killing animals until Monday morning.
This weekend will probably not be a big success, sadly--after all, there was very limited advertising. The public is not fooled--they know the animals they don't adopt will be killed. The vast majority of people--and there are MILLIONS of them in this city, so many who would love to adopt an animal or two--will NOT set foot in our Death Camps period.

"Moratorium on killing for a weekend"...Tony, you must realize this is a load. They don't kill on the weekends, anyway. Veterinarians don't work on the weekends and one must be on the premises for the killing.
Killing IS done on Mondays. While State law
dictates use of the "kill juice" must be under a
veterinarian's supervision and control, LAAS has
habitually put it into the hands of technicians
without a veterinarian on the premisis; one of the
many State and local statutes and ordinances flouted continually and with impunity by the administration of Los Angeles Animal Services. Frankly, I doubt Mr. Boks even knows of what California Statute or Los Angeles County or City Ordinance consist, while at the same time it is inevitably his duty and responsibility to exercise and conclude those same regulations.
In all things Animal Services, the buck stops with
Boks.

I thought the charges against Ferdin and ADL had resulted in a conviction of Ferdin and her husband last year. Guess these are different charges. That's fucked up. I worked for the department and when I left I took a box of stuff with me that I still have. The department is one big hell hole and the people who work there are ass holes. I still work for the city but in a different capacity but can send you guys some things I took with me.
I saw some crazy ass shit go down while working there. It's still going down from what my friends say. One of them who is still working for the department got a hold of an email Ed Boks sent out and if you think that David D has no discretion when he sleeps around with girls in the department and flirts around on e-mail when he should be doing his job, you ought to see what Ed Boks has sent around. I'm telling you no one could have made this shit up.
The best thing I ever did was to get the hell out of the department. I felt bad for the animals and it sucks that the department can't seem to do even the most basic things. It's not hard. I got my GED and never went to college but I even I know how to write up a job discription and a training guide. But people like Nancy Moriarty can't even update the training manuel. There fucking idiots in that department.
